Nights 339 and 340 - 25 Nights to Go!

Hi and welcome back!

Thursday night: 50 degrees
Friday morning: 48 degrees
Friday night: 37 degrees
Saturday morning: 34 degrees

I just logged on to see how many visitors I've had recently, and there were more than 700 in the last day!  Most days I have about 50-70 visitors, so I was pretty surprised that there were so many.  I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has checked in and I hope you keep sharing it with your friends.

On Friday it was pretty rainy during the day.  When I checked the tent in the evening everything was wet, but I was able to bring in my wet sleeping bags and dry the tent.  It was supposed to be mild overnight on Friday, so I took out the 40 degree bag, and I was fine.

When I went out to the tent Friday night it was changing over to freezing rain, and sometime later in the night it turned to snow.  None of it really stuck, though.

Mount Washington, New Hampshire
At some point this winter my dad and I are planning to climb Mount Washington in New Hampshire. It's 6,288' tall, but just because it's small doesn't mean it's easy.  It's usually below 0 degrees on the summit, with the winds going up to almost 100 miles per hour pretty regularly.
Ready for Mount Washington?

This morning I put on all of the clothing and gear that I would need for the climb to see what it would be like.  I had five layers on top and three layers on the bottom.  After just a few minutes with it on I was sweating (even outside), so it should be warm enough for Mount Washington.

As an example, right now on Mount Washington the ambient temperature is -2.7 degrees, and the windchill is -38.

When it gets closer to New Years I'm going to haven an announcement about my next project, which will include Mount Washington and a few other climbs.  I'll tell you more about that later!

Thanks for reading!

    1. Thanks, KD!

It IS beautiful up there. And I really hope I do conquer it. I climbed it the summer before I turned 9, but I have a feeling winter will be a completely different level of difficulty.

  2. I used to live in New Hampshire and ice climb on Mt Washington, that's a cold place!
So you are only 21 nights away from finishing the year LRC, maybe I'll sleep outside on the 31st in solidarity with you on that last night!

    1. Hi Mark!

I didn't know you used to live in New Hampshire. When my dad climbed it in the winter before, he ice climbed on Cathedral Ledge and said it's awesome.

I can't believe I'm less than a month away! If you do sleep out on the 31st, be sure to let me know! That would be really cool.

  3. I was born in Manchester and learned to climb at Cathedral. I first camped, backpacked and climbed in NH.
I'll keep you posted about sleeping out that last night. I'll probably do it, it'll be fun.
